The construction of our home in Paradise has been completed. Future additions to this blog, if any, might be few and far between. The only major things left to do involve landscaping and lots of fishing.
I hope you have enjoyed watching our dreams come true.

Grass Is Looking Better 06-15-2010

Sod 05-29-2010
We had some sod delivered on 05-28 and we started laying it out the next day. It took a total of 4 days to lay out 19 pallets. On Monday a neighbor dropped by for a few minutes to see what we were doing and then came back 10 minutes later with 4 other guys and helped us lay out about 4 of the pallets leaving only 2 remaining for Tuesday. The grass is mostly Tifway 419 but there is some common bermuda mixed in. We got a super low price for this non-genetically pure sod. In the end, we just need grass. The kids are tracking mud everywhere.

Driveway Rocks 05-05-2010
We had one more load of rocks delivered to complete the gravel driveway. A friend's tractor with a box blade will spread that out nicely, just like it did the topsoil.

Central Vacuum 05-01-2010
The central vacuum cleaner installation was completed. We're quite impressed with the unit so far. All the dust and dirt are carried to the garage. Nothing is recirculated in the house. It all gets sucked right out.
Garage Door 04-23-2010
We were finally able to get a garage door installed. We're thinking of painting it green. A white door would stand out too much and detract from the subtle contrasts of the trim.

More Flooring 04-16-2010
Sidewalk and Garage Pad Forms Are Set 04-15-2010
The forms have been set for a sidewalk to the driveway and for a pad outside the garage. Eventually we'll have a concrete drive but it will stay gravel for now. The forecast is lots of rain so it will be next week before the concrete is poured.

The Countertops Are Installed 04-01-2010
The granite contractors came and installed the countertops.
The kitchen is Moon Valley (Brazil).

One kids vanity is Autumn Brown (Canada).

And the other kids vanity is Crema Bordeaux (Brazil).

The master vanity is also Moon Valley but I forgot to get a picture of that. The Moon Valley was all from the same slab. The kids vanities were small enough to use "remnants" from the granite contractors previous jobs at a significant discount. There were many remnants to choose from. It made for a fun day going through all the slabs, seeing all the variety.

The Lights Are On 03-31-2010
The electrician came out and got all the plugs, switches, ceiling fans, and light fixtures installed. The electric company switched the power from the temporary pole over to the house. Sears delivered all the appliances and those were installed too, if possible. The dishwasher must wait for the plumber and the stovetop has to wait for the granite countertop to be installed. And that just happens to be tomorrow at 9am.

Staining The Cabinets 03-19-2010
The painter started staining the cabinets. The flash on our digital camera konked out a few weeks ago so all pictures are coming off of my cellphone. This is one of the built-in desks in the office. Maple with a custom mixed Minwax stain. It looks just like the cabinets in the Grande Lodge on Mt. Crested Butte in Colorado.

The office doors were supposed to be painted white but I guess we didn't tell the painter. They were real wood instead of MDF so he stained them. I think I like them better this way.

Trouble With The Storm Closet 03-17-2010
The metal door for the storm closet ended up being about 3 inches too short for the frame. I was able to remove the door and frame and add some framing lumber to get it to fit properly. Not sure why the trim guy didn't add the lumber himself. I didn't even bother to ask. Sometimes if you want it done right... you have to do it yourself. I'll post another example picture later when the drywall company repairs this spot.
