The Lights Are On 03-31-2010

The electrician came out and got all the plugs, switches, ceiling fans, and light fixtures installed. The electric company switched the power from the temporary pole over to the house. Sears delivered all the appliances and those were installed too, if possible. The dishwasher must wait for the plumber and the stovetop has to wait for the granite countertop to be installed. And that just happens to be tomorrow at 9am.

A Fun Afternoon 03-29-2010

The family spent a fun afternoon at the new house. We ate dinner there and the boys played outside in the dirt. I scouted around and had no problem picking up 32 ounces of nails. Bare feet in the near future will appreciate me doing some more scouting soon.

Interior Painting 03-27-2010

The painting crew finished up the cabinet staining and got busy painting the interior. The whole process took more than a week but the color choices were good and we're pleased with the results.

Staining The Cabinets 03-19-2010

The painter started staining the cabinets. The flash on our digital camera konked out a few weeks ago so all pictures are coming off of my cellphone. This is one of the built-in desks in the office. Maple with a custom mixed Minwax stain. It looks just like the cabinets in the Grande Lodge on Mt. Crested Butte in Colorado.

The office doors were supposed to be painted white but I guess we didn't tell the painter. They were real wood instead of MDF so he stained them. I think I like them better this way.

Underground Electric 03-19-2010

The electric company came out and buried a cable from the transformer to the house. I took a picture so we'll have an idea of where that cable runs in the future when I'm digging a hole or something.

Trouble With The Storm Closet 03-17-2010

The metal door for the storm closet ended up being about 3 inches too short for the frame. I was able to remove the door and frame and add some framing lumber to get it to fit properly. Not sure why the trim guy didn't add the lumber himself. I didn't even bother to ask. Sometimes if you want it done right... you have to do it yourself. I'll post another example picture later when the drywall company repairs this spot.

Mantel, Window Seat and Cleanup 03-14-2010

The cabinet builder created a mantel for us based on a picture we had seen on the Internet of a mantel in this same model of home.

The trim guy finished the window seat in the bathroom. It will be painted white and I'm still not sure who's going to be sitting by the window in the bathroom!

We did some cleanup to prepare for the painters who will be here soon. It's nice to see the garage empty and the giant pile of debris in the driveway is gone.

Stair Rail 03-09-2010

The stair company came and built a rail to keep family members and visitors alike from plunging to their deaths into the stairwell. They also put up a nice handrail. The stairs themselves were roughed in by the framer and will simply be covered with carpet.

Texture, Cabinets and the Green House 03-05-2010

The texture on a rounded corner.
Some of the kitchen cabinets.
The green house from the Big Tree.

Tape Bed Texture and Drainage 03-02-2010

The drywall company has finished installing the drywall, taping and bedding. Looks likes its ready for the texture.
Outside we are starting to see a problem with the drainage around the house. We're on a slope and the company that created the house pad charged us an additional $700 of dozer time to get the drainage right. As we can see from this picture. The water isn't going the "right" direction. Water should drain to the left of the house. It's not.
